My Forest School Journey

An Exciting New Adventure

Starting my journey at Forest School is super exciting!!! I have been the Outdoor Learning Manager for a special needs school for the past 7 years, and I absolutely love it! We have such a fantastic time together, but I realised it was time to learn something new to share with them… cue Forest School!

Why Forest School?

It’s not about fancy outcomes or structured lessons. It’s about my students connecting with nature. Allowing them time to appreciate what’s around us and finding a real love for being outdoors. A place where they can enjoy themselves, regulate their emotions, and explore at their own pace.

Connecting with Nature

One of the best parts of this experience is going to be connecting even more with nature. I have always loved the outdoors and even as a kid I can remember noticing the “little things”. Sounds kind of cheesy but I remember walking to primary school and there was a hedgerow running up to the front gate and I remember noticing the buds emerging, the insects doing their thing, the smell just before it rains ….. haha, told you it was cheesy ….

Building New Skills

Although I’m just beginning, I can already feel my skills evolving. I am loving every minute of the research and discovery!!!!

Right now, this blog will mostly be a record of my Forest School training: reflections, assignments, things I’ve tried, and the lessons I’m learning along the way. I’ll share photos of the spaces I’m exploring, videos of activities I’m practicing, and plenty of thoughts as I go.

Later, when I start leading sessions, I hope this will grow into a record of my students’ adventures too — den building, bug hunts, sensory activities, and all the ways they connect with the outdoors.
